Liverpool Worst Transfer XI Under Brendan Rodgers With Mario Balotelli Leading The Line

The worst team of signings Rodgers has made.

Liverpool’s new signings have largely been a flop this season, with Dejan Lovren and Mario Balotelli coming in for serious criticism since arriving at Anfield.

In fact since manager Brendan Rodgers took charge in the summer of 2012 there have been a number of poor additions, with Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge the only standout successes.

Here is an XI of Rodgers’ worst signings.

GK – Simon Mignolet

Arrived from Sunderland in 2013 in an expensive £9m deal and a little over 12 months on the Reds are desperately trying to find alternatives after a string of erratic performances.

RB – Javier Manquillo

May seem a little harsh to judge the 20-year-old so early into his Anfield career, but having signed a two-year loan deal the Atletico Madrid starlet needs to greatly imporve.

CB – Tiago Ilori

Another youngster now and someone who is yet to play a single game for the Merseysiders despite costing £7m from Sporting Lisbon and is currently struggling on-loan at Bordeaux.

CB – Dejan Lovren

Mamadou Sakho is lucky to escape this team following his £18m move from Paris Saint-Germain, but for the £20m fee paid to Southampton this Croatian takes the place for being so expensive.

LB – Aly Cissokho

Aston Villa fans may defend this Frenchman, but during his time under Rodgers’ guidance the left-back was nothing more than a complete liability.

CDM – Nuri Sahin

The Real Madrid midfielder Reds fans would love to forget, especially when his poor displays were in such stark contrast what he later showed whilst on-loan with Borussia Dortmund.

RM – Iago Aspas

Lasted just one year on Merseyside in which time he scored just one solitary goal, although is now trying to prove he is good once again whilst on-loan with Sevilla.

LM – Luis Alberto

Like Aspas arrived from La Liga in 2013, lasted one miserable season in England and was loaned straight back to Spain. The duo both cost £7m apiece as well.

CAM – Victor Moses

Showed so much promise at Wigan Athletic, but Chelsea and then a loan spell under Rodgers almost ruined this Nigerian before Stoke City boss Mark Hughes built his confidence back up again this term.

ST – Fabio Borini

A real favourite of the Northern Irishman’s having worked with him at Stamford Bridge and later Swansea City, but paying £10m to AS Roma for this one-time Italy international was a big mistake.

ST – Mario Balotelli

Completing an all Italian front line is this £16m disaster from AC Milan, who has managed two goals so far – neither in the Premier League – and has also given some truly awful showings.
