Neither side has made the best of starts to the new season, with a top four finish and Champions League qualification realistically the best either team can hope for as Chelsea look like running away with the title already, but both Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers will want to ensure they can land the best players possible to improve their fortunes on the pitch.

According to various recent reports, any of these ten players could be making their way either to the Emirates Stadium or Anfield this winter, with mostly midfielders and strikers on the agenda for both clubs if these rumours are to be believed…

10) Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich)

A player not getting enough first-team football at the moment, Xherdan Shaqiri looks likely to leave Bayern Munich this January and is one player said to be attracting strong interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool among other clubs.

9) Fabian Delph (Aston Villa)

Aston Villa look at serious risk of losing star midfielder Fabian Delph on a free transfer next summer, with the impressive young England international set to see out his contract and move on to bigger things, with Arsenal and Liverpool among those waiting in the wings to snap him up.

8) Sebastian Giovinco (Juventus)

Another player considering his future at his current club and open to walking away for free is Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco, who could be heading to the Premier League as Arsenal and Liverpool again show an interest in the same player.

7) William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)

A long-time target for Arsenal, Sporting Lisbon’s exciting young midfielder William Carvalho is now also on Liverpool’s agenda for January as the Reds eye reinforcements in the middle of the park to improve their recent performances.

6) Pedro (Barcelona)

Barcelona star Pedro is another player attracting interest after falling out of favour under new manager Luis Enrique this season, with Arsenal and Liverpool possibly set to look to the experienced Spanish winger as an option to bolster their respective attacking options.

5) Yohan Cabaye (Paris Saint-Germain)

Unsettled at Paris Saint-Germain since his move from Newcastle United last season, Yohan Cabaye is supposedly ready to make a return to the Premier League and is another player that Arsenal and Liverpool could be in direct competition for in the next transfer window.

4) Isco (Real Madrid)

Reports from earlier this season suggested that Real Madrid starlet Isco could be on his way out of the club this January, and, although that seems unlikely now given his big improvement in form, it has again been suggested that Liverpool and Arsenal would be the main teams in contention to sign him.

3) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

Another Paris Saint-Germain player who could be on the move this January after becoming unhappy with his current role in Laurent Blanc’s team, Edinson Cavani has alerted both Arsenal and Liverpool to his availability this winter as both clubs could do with more quality upfront.

2) Jackson Martinez (Porto)

A striker in superb form, Jackson Martinez of Porto is another player who could spark something of a bidding war between Liverpool and Arsenal this January as the Reds reportedly step up their interest in the £30m-rated player, who had previously been strongly linked with the Gunners.

1) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

A player who may not move until next summer, but Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is another who has unsurprisingly come up on the radars of both Liverpool and Arsenal in recent times as almost every top club in Europe has been after the world class German.
