Five Things We Learned From Chelsea’s Victory Over Liverpool, Including The Pressure On Brendan Rodgers And The Blues Could Be Invincible

Liverpool showed some promise in loss to all conquering Chelsea side…

After a poor start to the season, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers put all his eggs in one basket by resting many of his best players against Real Madrid, keeping one eye on his side’s clash with Chelsea.

The gamble did not pay off, with the Reds losing 2-1 to the London team. However, some promise was seen at Anfield, and this could lead to better performances in the near future.

On the other hand, Chelsea, continued their unbeaten start to the season, and it’s becoming difficult to see who is going to beat them.

Here are five things we learned from Saturday’s Premier League match up…

5) Emre Can could be a better signing than first thought

The German midfielder followed up his solid performance against Real Madrid with another against the league leaders. His deflected goal was deserved and could be sign of better things to come from the summer signing. Also, at 20 years old, he can only get better.

4) Chelsea show up Liverpool’s poor summer

The difference between Chelsea’s and Liverpool’s recruitment was laid bare on Saturday. Despite Emre Can scoring, the Blues showed the Merseyside club what a good summer can do. Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas have turned the Londoners in to an unstoppable machine, while Liverpool’s plethora of signings have done little to replace Luis Suarez. This was evident in how Jose Mourinho’s side were on the front foot for most of the game, unlike the same fixture last season.

3) Dejan Lovren still doesn’t look like a £20m man

The Croatian hasn’t looked up to speed since moving to Anfield, and he didn’t look any better against Chelsea. He lost the ball several times, and even lost his man once the ball got in to dangerous areas. He needs to improve quickly if he’s going to justify his transfer fee.

2) It will take a lot to beat Chelsea

Jose Mourinho’s side look unbeatable at the moment. With wins away at Liverpool and Everton as well as draws at Manchester United and City, its starting to become difficult to see where they are going to lose. If anyone does manage to do it, it will take a great performance, and a lot of luck. They have very little in terms of weaknesses at the moment.

1) Brendan Rodgers is still under pressure

The Reds have already lost five games this season, only one less than they did in the whole of the last campaign. They seem to be conceding at the same rate as last term, but without the goals of Luis Suarez and the injured Daniel Sturridge dragging them to wins. Rodgers will need his side to improve soon, or the pressure will only grow on his shoulders.
