After a long and drawn out saga, the England international will allegedly be signing his new contract extension within the week.

Liverpool are struggling somewhat this season, especially when compared to their fantastic last campaign. Brendan Rodgers will therefore be looking to tie top players like Sterling down to extended contracts, ensuring they are at the club for years to come and to ward off the likes of Real Madrid.

With his current contract thought to be somewhere in the region of £30,000-per-week, this new deal will see the youngster more than triple his wage.

Considering how recently he was playing for the youth team, it certainly is a meteoric rise to the top.

Sterling has been the shining light in a sub-par Liverpool team this season, and has struggled somewhat with the absence of Barcelona bound Luis Suarez and injury stricken Daniel Sturridge.

With Rodgers’ new signings failing to hit the ground running at Anfield, Sterling’s performances are more important than ever.
