The Premier League Sack Race: 5 Managers Facing A Race Against Time, With Liverpool & Manchester City Bosses Close To Exit

Unbelievably no managers have been sacked yet…

With the Premier League season well under way, a sacking is surely just round the corner. This month is one of clubs’ favourites for getting rid of their managers, with it giving any new bosses time to assess their squad before the January transfer window.

The division has been very unpredictable this season, leading to managers always having a chance of turning their tenures round. Alan Pardew is one such example; he looked like he was out the door just a month ago but he has now got Newcastle in to seventh in the league.

Here are five managers looking dangerously close to losing their jobs at the moment…

5) Harry Redknapp, QPR

The wheeler dealer hasn’t inspired his side so far this season, with QPR languishing in 19th in the league. He will need to better their results soon, especially with 20th Burnley recently getting a confidence boosting first win on the board.

4) Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City

Despite leading the Citizens to the title last time, the Chilean may already be fearing for his job due to massive board expectations. Recent stumbles against QPR and CSKA Moscow have put doubts on his continuing reign. Expect to hear more about this if the Sky Blues are knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages, and remember that Roberto Mancini was fired too, after also picking up the title the previous term.

3) Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham

Pochettino has not had the best of starts to his career at Spurs with five losses already on the board. Chairman Daniel Levy is known for his trigger finger, sacking seven managers since arriving at the club in 2001.

2) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool

After spurning his transfer funds on a number of big money signings, the Northern Irish boss has come under pressure. Liverpool don’t look like even getting close to the title challenge that they managed last season, and some of the fans are starting to get on their manager’s back due to the backward step the club have taken. Rodgers splurged £133m in the summer, and the team has got considerably worse. Is that a sackable offence…?

1) Paul Lambert, Aston Villa

Despite recently managing to end a six game losing streak with a 0-0 draw against West Ham, Lambert is still in first place in the sack race. The only thing that seems to be keeping him in a job at the moment is the fact that the chairman is trying to sell the club, and doesn’t want to have to pay the compensation that would be due.
