Juventus Striker Alvaro Morata Reveals Why He Rejected Summer Arsenal Move

Spanish international had no interest in playing in the Premier League.

Former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has revealed that he joined Juventus instead of Arsenal or Manchester United last summer because they showed more desire to land his signature than the English sides, according to the Daily Star.

The Spanish striker moved to Turin from Real Madrid for £20m and admits there was interest from the Premier League.

Arsenal are believed to have been frontrunners for his services, though they eventually spent £16m on signing Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck.

But Morata has said that Juventus were far more persistent in their attempts to sign him, prompting him to ditch the interest from elsewhere.

“During the summer I was training alone, just waiting for my move to Turin,” he said this week.

“I had offers from England, but in difficult times you have to put your faith in those you can trust.

“Juventus directors had literally been to my house telling me they wanted to sign me, so [moving to Juventus] was a decision made out of loyalty.

“I feel a kind of responsibility to do well. Not because of how much I cost, but because I came here having hardly played for Real [Madrid].

“A lot of people advised me against this move. They told me to go to a mid-table team?. I don’t think I made the wrong choice.”
