Scotland face the Republic of Ireland at Celtic Park on Friday evening with both sides looking to capitalise on a promising start to their Euro 2016 qualification campaign and set themselves up as the main rivals to Poland and Germany for a place in France.

Ireland lead the group, having backed up wins over Georgia and Gibraltar with a fantastic point in Germany, whilst Scotland have also picked up a creditable four points from their three games, with a 2-2 draw in Warsaw a particularly impressive return from Gordon Strachan’s side.

The hosts will sweat on the fitness of Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthur, who is a doubt, whilst Rangers midfielder Lewis MacLeod and Derby County winger Johnny Russell could be handed debuts.

Visitors Ireland have James McCarthy and Aiden McGeady in their ranks and both are likely to receive a frosty reception in Glasgow, having opted to represented Ireland rather than Scotland.
