Although it is widely accepted that Arsenal’s problems lie in defence this season, and perhaps defensive midfield, they could certainly benefit from something different upfront, with summer signing Alexis Sanchez proving their best goalscorer at the moment from the flanks.

The options are there for Arsene Wenger, with fans given the chance to have their say on who should be leading the line at the Emirates Stadium this season.

The fans have voted as follows:

5) Theo Walcott – 5%

In last place is Theo Walcott, who generally plays as a winger but has also shone in a central striker role when used there in the past. Injuries have held him back in recent times, but he is closing in on a return and may find he is used up top to give the team some variety.

4) Lukas Podolski – 7%

Another player not usually used as a striker, Lukas Podolski is fourth choice for Arsenal fans with seven per cent of the vote.

3) Danny Welbeck – 26%

Arsene Wenger’s current firdt choice upfront, Danny Welbeck is seemingly not held in that high estimations by Arsenal fans, coming just third here.

2) Alexis Sanchez – 27%

A versatile attacker normally used either wide right or wide left, Alexis Sanchez can also play upfront and is preferred to Welbeck in a striker role by Arsenal fans.

1) Olivier Giroud – 32%

Absence makes the heart grow stronger – injured striker Olivier Giroud seems to be Arsenal fans’ favourite to be first choice in the centre-forward role for the Gunners.
