Arsenal January Transfer Targets – Man United Star & Bundesliga Ace Top Arsene Wenger’s List

Top Arsenal January transfer targets. Manchester United star and Chelsea targets included…

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Arsenal have a chance to address some serious issues within their current squad. With a number of injuries already threatening to derail their season, the Gunners without a doubt need to reinforce this winter.

A centre-back and defensive midfielder are top of the list (as they have been for the last few seasons), but a world class signing in any area of the pitch would surely be welcomed.

Here are the top 11 targets who could make the switch to Arsenal this January:

11) Matija Nastasic – Manchester City

Arsenal have reportedly been offered the Serbian star in January in a cut-price deal worth just £5m.

Nastasic has failed to live up to expectations at Manchester City, but given the right guidance could prove to be the answer to Arsenal’s ongoing defensive crisis.

10) Paul Dybala – Palermo

Dybala has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Gunners after current club Palermo revealed he could leave in January if their valuation of him was met.

The 20-year-old has been dubbed the new Aguero, with the £31m rated player scoring four goals in 12 appearances so far this season.

9) Lars Bender – Bayer Leverkusen

The Bundesliga star has been a long term target for the North Londoners for a number of seasons now, and is viewed by many as the perfect player to fill the defensive midfield void.

Reports have suggested that Arsene Wenger has opened talks with Bender in recent weeks ahead of a January transfer.

8) Chris Smalling – Manchester United

Fans may not necessarily want Smalling, but they may end up getting him anyway after he emerged as a top January target.

With the current state of the defence something needs to be done fast, and Wenger seems to think the England international is the answer.

7) Sami Khedira – Real Madrid

Arsenal have been linked with Khedira for months now, but as of yet nothing has materialised.

Recent statements from the player suggest he could be set to stay with Madrid, but with the German World Cup winner yet to sign a contract extension it’s anything but a forgone conclusion.

6) Aymeric Laporte – Athletic Bilbao

Wenger has been keeping tabs on Bilbao defender Laporte for a while now allegedly, but faces competition from a number of top European clubs.

The 20-year-old is thought of as a cheaper alternative to some of the Gunners’ other top defensive targets.

5) Winston Reid – West Ham United

Another budget defender, Reid has been stalling on a new contract for a while now and the Hammers are ready to cash in on him in Janaury to avoid losing him for free in the summer.

Possibly the ideal target for Arsenal who desperately need a third choice centre-back. A player with Premier League experience would be ideal for the Gunners.

4) Pedro – Barcelona

Reports have suggested that the North London side are lining up a £26m bid for the Spanish international in January.

The 27-year-old is notoriously unhappy with his lack of first team football at the Nou Camp, and a switch to the Emirates Stadium could be the answer.

3) Grzegorz Krychowiak – Sevilla

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign La Liga defensive midfielder Krychowiak.

The Polish international only joined Sevilla this summer, but has already been hotly tipped to make a big money move in January after a fantastic start to his La Liga career.

2) Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund

Hummels declared his loyalty to Dortmund in the summer, but after their disastrous start to the new Bundesliga campaign he may be rethinking his decision.

The German international is allegedly open to a move to the Gunners and the Premier League, but valued at over £30m it is a question of whether Wenger is willing to splash the cash.

1) Mattia Destro – AS Roma

Despite signing Danny Welbeck on deadline day the club are still in the market for another striker.

The 22-year-old Serie A striker has been strongly linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks, but it seems Wenger could be leading the chase.

Despite scoring 22 goals in 49 games for Roma, Destro is still down in the pecking order and is tipped to move sooner rather than later.
