GK: Victor Valdes

Linked with the club since the summer, and looked to be joining at one point. Now appears to be on the verge of a switch to Manchester United.

RB: Dani Alves

Alves has been told his days at the Nou Camp are up, and the Reds are keeping watch as they look to replace the hapless Glen Johnson.

CB: Simon Kjaer

Brendan Rodgers was reportedly running the rule over the Danish international throughout the summer. A move failed to materialise, but the club are believed to be keeping watch anyway.

CB: Inigo Martinez

Rodgers had been keeping track of the big centre-back, but failed to make a move. Martinez is now looking forward to working with David Moyes.

LB: Ryan Bertrand

The Reds wanted the perennial Chelsea loanee over the summer, but the Blues weren’t keen to loan him to the Anfield side after the Victor Moses affair. However, he could still move at the end of the campaign.

DM: Yohan Cabaye

The France international has been tipped to make a return to the Premier League and Rodgers may decide to put in an offer in the new year.

RW: Ezequiel Lavezzi

Was mooted to be leaving PSG after the World Cup but stayed put. His situation has remained the same and he may decide to push the issue in January.

LW: Xherdan Shaqiri

Shaqiri had one foot out the door at Bayern in August until they changed their minds at the last minute. However, there may still be hope as the Swiss international has realised that he won’t play as regularly as he would like.

AM: Marco Reus

Like every other big club in Europe, the Reds have been keen on the Germany international, though it now appears as if they’ve fallen behind in the chase and are in real danger of missing out.

ST: Klaas Jan-Huntelaar

Rodgers hade been looking to take advantage of the Dutchman’s expiring contract, but it now looks as though he will stay with Schalke.

ST: Edinson Cavani

The Uruguayan was believed to be on his way out on the Ligue 1 champions, but he is another one who opted to stay put.
