Last season saw some players rise to the top of the crop when it came to scoring for fun – and they’re mostly from La Liga. However, despite Spanish dominance there is one player that trumps them all and he ply’s his trade in the Premier League. The top scorers from the 2013/14 season were all prolific in their own right, but who had the best goals to minutes ratio? Find out below…

6. Lionel Messi – Barcelona

Messi was in prolific form in La Liga last term, but an Injury meant he had to sit on the sidelines for a good section of the campaign, thus elongating the minutes between his goals.
5. Mario Mandzukic – then of Bayern Munich

The Croatian was in good form for the Bundesliga champions, and actually improved on his tally from the season before. However, it still wasn’t deemed good enough and he was replaced by Robert Lewandowski over the summer.

The only Englishman on the list, Sturridge enjoyed his strongest season to date alongside Luis Suarez and has now become a bonafide star in his own right. Currently unable to build on last season’s good work, though, as he has sit out most of the season with injury.

These numbers only take league goals into account, otherwise the Portuguese ace would have stormed to the top of the tree with his 51 goals across all competitions.

Suarez really stepped up his game last season and went on to become Europe’s hottest striker. His goals lifted the Reds up into second place, and earned him that big money move to Barcelona this summer.

Slightly misleading as Aguero’s goals came between injuries, and lengthy ones at that. However, he still managed to bag an impressive 17 in 23 to help fire the club to their second ever Premier League title.
