The 22-year-old Spaniard has attracted plenty of interest from top clubs in recent times after establishing himself as one of Europe’s best young midfielders, helping Atletico to the La Liga title and Champions League final with some fine performances last season.

Koke has started well again this term as well, contributing a highly impressive three goals and 11 assists in just 17 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side, and his displays have got him on the radar of Europe’s giants once again.

Chelsea made a number of raids on Atletico Madrid this summer, signing both Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from the Spanish champions, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois returned to Stamford Bridge after spending three years on loan at the Vicente Calderon.

Koke could now be in line to follow his old team-mates to Stamford Bridge, though it is likely that the Blues would have to meet the player’s £55m release clause to lure him to England.

City and Barcelona are also interested as they seek improvements in midfield.
