England maintained their 100 per cent record in Euro 2016 qualifiers on Saturday night by beating Slovenia 3-1 at Wembley Stadium.
After an uninspiring goalless first-half, Slovenia edged ahead on 57 minutes when Jordan Henderson headed into his own net.
However, England responded excellently. They were level within two minutes thanks to a Wayne Rooney penalty, which he had won himself.
A quick-fire Danny Welbeck double then completed the turnaround.
Here’s how Roy Hodgson’s men rated…
GK: Joe Hart – 6/10
Looked full of confidence. Seemed to be on his way to a fifth consecutive international clean sheet, before being beaten by Henderson’s bullet header, which left him with no chance.
RB: Nathaniel Clyne – 7/10
Controlled the right flank with impressive authority on his debut. Kyle Walker, who recently returned to Tottenham training after an eight-month injury absence, may struggle to get back into the side.
LB: Kieran Gibbs – 6/10
Foolishly booked for a mean challenge on Valter Birsa.
CB: Phil Jagielka – 5/10
Far from convincing. His constant edginess gave hope to a very poor Slovenia frontline.
CB: Gary Cahill – 7/10
Was kept on his toes by Jagielka. The Chelsea centre-back made a superb block to deny Kevin Kampl in the second half, after his Everton counterpart had fluffed his lines.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 5/10
Put England in trouble with his own goal. Aside from that error, the Liverpool midfielder was far below his best. His passing was very poor.
CM: Adam Lallana – 7/10
A fairly busy 79-minute appearance from Lallana, who made more tackles than any of his teammates.
CM: Jack Wilshere – 8/10
Superb performance from the Arsenal star, whose pass completion rate was higher than any other player on the pitch. His defensive discipline was also excellent.
AM: Raheem Sterling – 7/10
Took a few ugly touches in the first half, but he grew into the game and played a glorious pass to Welbeck for England’s third goal.
ST: Wayne Rooney – 8/10
Captain Rooney marked his 100th senior appearance for England by taking the game by the scruff of the neck following Slovenia’s goal. A brilliant driving run won a penalty, which he smashed home, despite the goalkeeper getting a touch.
ST: Danny Welbeck – 9/10
Worked incredibly hard all game and showed that he DOES have the killer instinct in front of goal, netting twice.
