Liverpool’s Potential Starting XI After January: New Keeper, New Right-Back And Goalscorer Added

Will these signings boost the Reds into the top four…

Liverpool have played best so far under Brendan Rodgers when deploying a diamond formation, with two strikers, three central midfielders and a no.10.

It’s possible that with a few astute January signings, they could line up like this at the start of 2015.

GK) Asmir Begovic

Neto has also been heavily linked to Reds, who are looking to replace Simon Mignolet, who has a serious problem organising a leaky defence. Begovic would likely cost around £10m.

DR) Martin Montoya

Montoya can’t get in the Barcelona side right now, and would likely jump at the chance of a move to Liverpool. most Reds fans would see him as an improvement on Glen Johnson or Javier Manquillo right now.

DL) Alberto Moreno

The Spaniard signed in the summer, and has done relatively well so far.

DC) Martin Skrtel

The Slovakian leads Liverpool’s defence, and Rodgers is unlikely to replace him just yet.

DC) Mamadou Sakho

The Frenchman has been out injured for most of the season, but could replace the horribly out of form Dejan Lovren when he returns.

DMC) Steven Gerrard

Gerrard anchors the side, and sits at the base of midfield.

MRC) Jordan Henderson

One of the first names on the team-sheet, the captain provides thrust and energy in the middle.

MLC) Coutinho/Emre Can

Coutinho plays excellently in this central position against weaker sides, while Emre Can can be used during tougher fixtures because of his physicality and ability to break up opposition play.

AMC) Raheem Sterling

Sterling is best used in a central no.10 role.

FC) Daniel Sturridge

The Reds can’t wait for Sturridge to return from injury, and he should do – following the international break.

FC) Seydou Doumbia

The Reds are desperate for more firepower up top following Mario Balotelli’s shocking start to life to Merseyside. Doumbia scores plenty in Russia, and is available for a reported £15m. With Rickie Lambert and Balotelli failing to score a Premier League goal so far, Doumbia would bolster Rodgers’ attacking options.
