Premier League giants face fight to sign top target.
Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly been quoted a massive £47m asking price to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels this January, according to the Sun.
The German international, a World Cup winner with his country this summer, has established himself as one of the world’s best defenders in recent years, and has long been linked with a big move to the Premier League.
United and Arsenal are believed to be his main admirers as both clubs eye top class defensive signings this winter, but it has now emerged that they will have to break the bank to bring him to England anytime soon.
The 25-year-old will cost a staggering £47m according to latest claims, with Dortmund determined to fight off any interested clubs as the January transfer window fast approaches.
This could see both United and Arsenal turn their attention to other targets in that part of the pitch, but this news will certainly come as a blow for both clubs as Hummels had become their main target this season.
Louis van Gaal spent big over the summer and may be ready to do so again, but £47m may prove too much even for them, while it would break Arsenal’s previous transfer record of £42.5m paid for Mesut Ozil.
