So here CaughtOffside brings you a best XI of those new purchases.

GK – Fraser Forster, Southampton

Had been impressing with Celtic for some time, but some doubted whether the goalkeeper could cut it in the more competitive English league. Those critics have been silenced with Forster’s fine displays.

RB – Mathieu Debuchy, Arsenal

May have suffered a long-term injury, but enough had already been seen of Debuchy to show he was not just an adequate replacement for fellow Frenchman Bacary Sagna, but actually an improvement.

CB – Calum Chambers, Arsenal

Sticking with the Gunners theme and manager Arsene Wenger made it clear he would play this 19-year-old in central defence after he signed him for £16m from the Saints and due to an injury to Laurent Koscileny, Chambers has been able to prove the boss right.

CB – Michael Dawson, Hull City

Many thought the 30-year-old was past it last season when at Tottenham Hotspur, but like with Curtis Davies 12 months earlier Tigers boss Steve Bruce has reinvented this centre-back to be a powerhouse once more.

LB – Ryan Bertrand, Southampton

Back to St Mary’s now and after being deemed surplus to requirements by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Ronald Koeman snapped this left-back up on-loan and Bertrand has been proving the Portuguese coach wrong ever since.

RW – Dusan Tadic, Southampton

Another of Koeman’s new boys now and the Dutchman brought this winger with him from the Eredivisie, with the former FC Twente man taking to English football immediately and looking sharp from the wing.

CM – Alex Song, West Ham United

Amazingly none of the Premier League sides in Europe snapped this midfielder up when he was made available by FC Barcelona and the Hammers appear to have secured a shrewd loan deal by landing Song themselves.

CM – Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea

Another returning to England from Barcelona this summer and it seems as if Fabregas has never been away with the 27-year-old having already provided an impressive nine assists in the league.

LW – Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal

Back to the Emirates Stadium now and the third successive signing from the Nou Camp, with Sanchez having been in fine form in front of goal for Wenger’s side since completing his £35m switch from Catalonia.

ST – Diego Costa, Chelsea

If there was one thing missing from Mourinho’s team last term it was a goalscorer and the 51-year-old has gone out and paid £32m to Atletico Madrid to solve that with a striker who already has 10 league strikes.

ST – Graziano Pelle, Southampton

Another impressive forward now and another who Koeman signed from the Dutch top tier, with Pelle having been in great form since arriving from Feyenoord over the summer.

Substitutes: Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea City), Aaron Cresswell (West Ham), Mohamed Diame (Hull), Angel di Maria (Manchester United), Diafra Sakho (West Ham).
