GK – Mark Schwarzer, Chelsea
Although at 42-years-old there is more chance of the goalkeeper retiring than signing with a new club, Schwarzer showed last season that despite his age he can still do a job between the sticks.
RB – Glen Johnson, Liverpool
May not be considered in such high regard as he once was, but at 30-years-old and with over 50 caps for England, getting Johnson on a free transfer could be quite a coup for some sides.
CB – Ron Vlaar, Aston Villa
Just edging in ahead of West Ham United centre-back Winston Reid because of his superior experience on bigger stages is the Villa captain, who could well be tempted to a bigger club in the New Year.
CB – John Terry, Chelsea
At 33-years-old the Blues skipper remains one of the best central defenders in the division and will more than likely get an extension to his current Stamford Bridge deal.
LB – Jon Flanagan, Liverpool
Having not played this term due to injury it’s easy to forget about Flanagan, but last year the 21-year-old was considered to be among the best young players in the league.
RM – James Milner, Manchester City
Sent an ultimatum to the City hierarchy that he would not sign a new contract until he got more game time and the England international has duly become a stalwart in the starting XI.
CM – Michael Carrick, Manchester United
May have fallen from grace somewhat from when he was named in the 2012/13 PFA Team of the Year, but the midfielder still has a lot to offer in the middle.
CM – Steven Gerrard, Liverpool
Speculation over the future of the Reds captain continues to rumble on and although Gerrard is some way short of the world-class ability he used to show, the 34-year-old is still a great asset.
CM – Mikel Arteta, Arsenal
Another skipper now and along with Gunners teammate Mathieu Flamini sees his current deal expiring next summer and whether that will be extended remains to be seen.
LM – Suso, Liverpool
Hasn’t exactly been groundbreaking at Anfield, but the 20-year-old still has huge amounts of potential and would certainly be worth the risk on a free transfer.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor, Tottenham Hotspur
May not be in the best of form, but has a pretty decent scoring record in the English top tier and at 30-years-old is hardly beyond his best.
