Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria Plays Down Fears Of Broken Foot And Hopes To Start Against Arsenal On Saturday

The winger played on for forty minutes despite hurting his foot.

Manchester United midfielder Angel di Maria will have an X-ray on his foot  after being hurt by a bad tackle in Argentina’s game against Portugal.

The winger was injured by Nani, who is on loan at Sporting Lisbon, but is still owned by di Maria’s new club.

The pair clashed in an international friendly at – where else – Old Trafford, and it was the Argentinian who came off worse.

United are in the midst of a horrendous injury crisis already, with David de Gea, Marcos Rojo, Rafael, Radamel Falcao, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Daley Blind and Michael Carrick among those who look likely to miss out on Saturday’s game against Arsenal.

Di Maria’s injury doesn’t look as bad as some of his team-mates, but Louis van Gaal won’t be enjoying the additional stress generated by having to sweat over his star attacker’s fitness.

“We don’t think it is too serious. It was just a blow. I hope it doesn’t swell anymore so I can play at the weekend,” the winger is quoted as telling the press by ESPN.

Unlike the rest of his team, di Maria has managed to remain in jury free so far since arriving in the Premier League, and has played every game since arriving in Manchester in August.
