There have been many injury prone players in the Premier League recently, with several having to end their careers because of fitness problems.

Here are 10 players who the 25-year-old will hope he doesn’t emulate…

10) Jack Wilshere

Despite being only 22-years-old, the Arsenal man has already got a shaky history with injuries. He has had repeated trouble with his ankle since originally hurting it in 2009.

Other problems have included knee, calf, and thigh injury. It has got to a point where Gooners wince every time he is tackled.

9) Sergio Aguero

The Argentine would probably be mentioned alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo if it were not for his constant injuries in recent years.

This year he has finally had a period without being forced on to the sidelines, and has greeted this with 12 goals in eleven Premier League games.

8) Jonathan Woodgate

Woodgate was once one of England’s best centre-backs, and cost Real Madrid £13.4 million. Predictably, he was actually injured at the time of the transfer.

He couldn’t continue at the top level with the amount of time he was spending in treatment room, and is now at Middlesborough.

7) Ledley King

The Tottenham Hotspur legend could have been a regular for both club and country if it weren’t for his dodgy knee. The problem meant that he could barely train, and could only play one game a week.

The fact that he could stay as a star player for Spurs and go to a World Cup before his retirement at just 31-years-old.

6) Dean Ashton

Ashton had to retire even earlier than King at just 26-years-old because of injuries. It was an ankle injury sustained while on international duty that caused his woes, and he actually got compensation from the FA for his career ending early.

5) Darron Gibson

The Republic of Ireland international has been dogged by injuries during his time at Manchester United and Everton. He’s now lucky if he’s able to play three games in a row.

4) Robin van Persie

The Red Devil has had two injury clear seasons since coming to the Premier League, in which he scored 30 and 37 goals. Apart from that he has struggled with niggling injuries, a shame for a player with such a good goalscoring record.

3) Kieron Dyer

Dyer once had bags of talent and looked likely to be a fixture for England for years. However, injuries robbed him of his pace, and he only made over 10 appearances twice in his final seven seasons.

2) Abou Diaby

The Frenchman has had a frankly amazing amount of injuries. The most impressive thing about him though is how he keeps getting offered new contracts at the Emirates Stadium.

1) Owen Hargreaves

Hargreaves retired at the young age of 31-years old. This was due to problems with both of his knees, which led one doctor to claim they were the worst he had ever seen in 35 years of being a knee specialist.

The former England star once uploaded videos to YouTube to prove his fitness, which helped for a while, but not long.
