WhoScored have announced the statistically best player in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi…

Here’s the five players behind the brilliant pair based on form in 2014…

5) Sergio Aguero – Manchester City – 7.71 rating

Manchester City’s sensational Argentine comes in at no.5, and he could be even higher if he didn’t suffer with injuries less often. This term, he’s been breathtaking, scoring 12 Premier League goals in just nine starts, and his dynamic presence up top last term was key to City’s title win. Aguero is capable of playing just behind a striker, or as a lone no.9, where his pace and consistently excellent finishing makes him a nightmare defenders.

.

4) Zlatan Ibrahimovic – PSG – 7.80 rating

The giant Swede has improved as he’s entered his thirties. He scores goals at will in France with PSG, and fired the Parisians to the title last season. His skill and touch is almost perfect, but he’s also able to hold the ball up and win aerial duels because of the fact he’s 6 ft. 5″. A wonderful footballer. A true modern great.

.

3) Eden Hazard – Chelsea – 7.87 rating

Hazard is only 23-years-old, and has a genuine chance of filling the void of ‘world’s best player’ once Messi and Ronaldo move into their thirties. The Belgian superstar is ferociously quick, a mesmeric dribbler, and can shoot from inside or outside of the box. In short, he’s got it all.

.

2) Marco Reus – Borussia Dortmund – 8.07 rating

The German is rated as the fourth world’s best player here, which seems a little high. This is doing no disservice to Reus’s undoubted ability, but the likes of Arjen Robben and Neymar are arguably stronger players right now. Still, Reus notched 16 Bundesliga goals last term – a fantastic achievement from the left wing.

1) Lus Suarez – Barcelona – 8.13 rating

The brilliant Uruguayan is top of this list. In the Premier League in 2013/14, Suarez notched a jaw-dropping 31 goals, none of which came from the penalty spot. His goals almost fired Liverpool to a Premier League title – but he got a different kind of reward in the summer (after that unsavoury World Cup moment…), when Barcelona signed him for a whopping £75m. Spanish fans can expect to see genius soon in La Liga.
