Liverpool are suffering this season from a terrible summer in the transfer market, but only one of those signings makes our side of the ‘worst XI’ to have played under the Northern Irishman during his time with the Reds.

GK) Brad Jones

Simon Mignolet hasn’t been great, but whenever Brad Jones has been selected, he’s been worse. The Aussie backup keeper still has  a contract until 2016, somehow.

DR) Martin Kelly

Kelly was shipped out this summer due to consistent injury problems which plagued his Liverpool career. People consider him a youngster, but he’s nearly 25.

DL) Aly Cissokho

Cissokho endured a disastrous loan spell last term with the Reds, losing his place at left-back to academy graduate Jon Flanagan. The Frenchman’s passing was especially dire.

DC) Sebastian Coates

The Uruguayan made five appearances for Liverpool during Brendan Rodgers’ first season, but due to injuries and a mistrust in his technical ability, he didn’t turn out once in 2013/14, and is now on loan at Sunderland.

DC) Dejan Lovren

The Croatian cost a ridiculous £20m during the summer, and has proved that he can’t rely defend this season, and isn’t even that good on the ball either. As a result, he’s one of the poster boys for Rodgers’ horrible transfer record since joining.

MC) Nuri Sahin

One of Rodgers’ first signings, the talented Turk joined on loan from Real Madrid – but was played out of position by the Northern Irishman and after becoming disenchanted with English football, had his loan spell cut short by Christmas.

MC) Luis Alberto

£6m well and truly wasted. The young Spaniard barely got a sniff last season, and has been shipped out on loan this – where he can’t get in the Malaga side.

AMR) Iago Aspas

An abysmally bad Liverpool player. Aspas didn’t register a goal or an assist for Reds in the Premier League, and took one of the worst corners of all-time when the Reds desperately needed a last minute goal against Chelsea during their title run-in.

AML) Oussama Assaidi

Another one of Rodgers’ early signings, the Moroccan flopped with the Reds, and has been loaned out to Stoke City for two seasons in a row! He can’t get in the side there either.

FC) Samed Yesil

Few will have have heard of this young German. Yesil made his debut during Rodgers’ first season – failing to do anything whatsoever in a League Cup fixture.  Since, he hasn’t played in nearly two years, and many Liverpool fans won’t even have heard of him.

FC) Andy Carroll

Not many associate Carroll as a Liverpool player under Rodgers, because the manager clearly rated him very little. Despite the fact he cost £35m, Rodgers used him as a substitute for five Premier League matches, before lending to him to West ham for the season for nothing! Luckily, the Irons then took him off Liverpool’s hands for £15m.
