Manchester United News And Rumour Roundup: Arsenal Star Wouldn’t Get In Red Devils Team, Hummels Still Wanted And What Club Legends Would Cost Today

Friday’s biggest stories for the Red Devils.

Unsettled Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is a target for Manchester United

The Belgium international has grown increasingly frustrated at his role at White Hart Lane under Maurico Pochettino and could be open to a move away.

This had led the Red Devils to show interest in Vertonghen, according to the Mirror, as they search for a centre-back to solve their own problems.

Pochettino is unimpressed by the 27-year-old’s attitude, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not allow the Belgian to leave for less than £18m.

Louis Van Gaal Insists Arsenal’s Summer Signing Wouldn’t Get Into Manchester United Team.

Dutch journalist says Kevin Strootman has ‘shaken hands’ on move from AS Roma to Old Trafford

Hugo Borst – who recently wrote Louis van Gaal’s latest book – says that Strootman has already unofficially agreed a switch to United.

The midfielder has been out for the best part of 12 months with a cruciate ligament injury, but is still rated as one of the best in his position in world football.

“Van Gaal asked Strootman whether he was interested in playing for Manchester United, and he said he was very willing. They have shaken hands on the deal,” Borst was quoted by talkSPORT.

Van Gaal says Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck would not get a game at Man United

The Dutchman’s decision to sell Welbeck to the Gunners on transfer deadline day over the summer for £16m was not a popular one among the fans.

At the time van Gaal claimed the 23-year-old was not a natural goalscorer, but the attacker has since scored 10 times for club and country, but the 63-year-old insists he still wouldn’t play at the Theatre of Dreams.

“He is now benefitting from playing every week. That was a question mark with Manchester United,” the manager was quoted by the Daily Express.

What Red Devils legends would cost in today’s market

The Daily Mail have constructed a list picking out classic Premier League players and predicting how much they would cost in today’s market.

Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, Bryan Robson and Peter Schmeichel are among those who have been valued by the newspaper.

Others who would apparently fetch huge fees are Thierry Henry, Michael Owen and Alan Shearer.

United are still interested in Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels

The 13-time Premier League champions are interesting in signing Hummels, but don’t think and discussions will be possible until next summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has made it clear the club will not be signing short-term fixes in the January transfer window and it seems they are prepared to wait for the Germany international.

Hummels is considered to be among the best central defenders in world football and will have a price-tag to match that assessment.
