Here are how the Reds rated in South London.

22. Simon Mignolet – 5

Despite one sharp save to deny Yannick Bolasie the goalkeeper was a shambles at the back once more and had no command over his box or defence.

19. Javier Manquillo – 5

Up against Bolasie the Atletico Madrid loanee struggled and the fact he is at Anfield for two seasons is looking increasingly like too long.

37. Martin Skrtel – 6

Hardly groundbreaking but the Slovakia international is the most solid thing the Merseysiders have at the back currently.

6. Dejan Lovren – 4

We’re not entirely sure this is the same centre-back who won all the plaudits at Southampton last term as Lovren once again was a complete liability.

2. Glen Johnson – 7

It was actually a good display from the 30-year-old filling in at left-back and Johnson kept Jason Puncheon quiet.

8. Steven Gerrard – 5

Another poor display from the captain who’s passing was unusually poor and he did little to inspire.

24. Joe Allen (Can, 74′) – 6

Suffered a nasty head injury and it seemed to affect the Welshman’s usually neat passing technique.

20. Adam Lallana (Borini, 72′) – 7

A great display from the England international who was one of very few positives for Brendan Rodgers and Lallana’s pass for Lambert’s opener was sublime.

31. Raheem Sterling – 6

Lively at times, but the 19-year-old continues to struggle to find the same sort of form he showed last campaign.

10. Philippe Coutinho – 6

At least the Brazilian showed invention, even if it didn’t always pay off for Coutinho.

9. Rickie Lambert – 7

Finally scored a goal after his summer move from the Saints, just a shame for the striker that it didn’t help his team win.

Substitutions:

29. Fabio Borini – 5

Came on to add some attacking verve, but once again failed to provide it.

23. Emre Can – 5

Has shown promise and could well be a star of the future, but Allen was probably better staying on.

Manager – Brendan Rodgers – 4

A complete lack of inventiveness from the Northern Irishman and his exit from Anfield could be nearer than he expects.
