Shocking Summer Signing XI: Liverpool & Tottenham Players Dominate

Check out this Premier Leagues XI made up of the worst summer signings this season. Liverpool trio and former Arsenal man included…

There were some fantastic signings in the Premier League this summer, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa joining Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

Conversely however, there have also been a number of ghastly transfers that the players and clubs are now sincerely regretting.

Here is the Premier League worst XI made up of summer signings:

GK) Michel Vorm – Swansea City to Tottenham Hotspur

The Dutch international goalkeeper went from being the first choice in a mid-table team, to sitting on the bench behind one of the best shot-stoppers in the world at the moment in Hugo Lloris.

RB) Bacary Sagna – Arsenal to Manchester City

Gunners fans loved Bacary Sagna, and despite the disappointment many understood that he felt it was time to move on. To move to City to sit on the bench behind arguably the best right-back in the league however, seems like a bizarre move for the Frenchman.

CB) Dejan Lovren – Southampton to Liverpool

The Croatian was presumed to be the reason the Saints’ defence was so solid last season. But with the Hampshire side’s back line looking better than ever, and Lovren struggling for form, it seems like Liverpool backed the wrong horse.

CB) Federico Fazio – Sevilla to Tottenham Hotspur

Two red cards in his Tottenham career already, and yet somehow he is keeping Jan Vertonghen out of the team. Fazio has been guilty of a number of costly mistakes this season, and needs to adapt to the Premier League fast if he wants to succeed.

LB) Ben Davies – Swansea City to Tottenham Hotspur

The youngster was just making a name for himself at Swansea, and was looking like one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League. His move to North London has seen him planted firmly on the bench however, his career already taking something of a nosedive.

CM) Saphir Taider – Inter Milan to Southampton

Possibly the worst signing on the list, Taider joined the Saints on-loan from Inter in a deal that saw Dani Osvaldo go the other way. He made just one substitute appearance for the club though, before Ronald Koeman terminated the loan agreement and sent him straight back to Italy. The player allegedly showed poor work ethic and “failed to live up to the high levels of commitment expected of Southampton players”.

RAM) Remy Cabella – Montpellier to Newcastle United

Newcastle may be on the up at the moment, but Cabella has not made the impact that was expected of him. He looked like a fantastic acquisition after his first game against the Citizens, but since then he has been all flair with no end product.

CAM) Joe Cole – West Ham United to Aston Villa

Why Villa thought it was a good idea to sign a 33-year-old Joe Cole down to a two-year contract is anyone’s guess. The midfielder has made just two substitute appearances for the club this season totalling a little over half an hour of game time.

LAM) Robert Snodgrass – Norwich City to Hull City

Admittedly this one isn’t really the fault of Hull or Robert Snodgrass, but the signing has still been a disaster. Hull spent a sizeable amount to prise Snodgrass away from Norwich, but after making just a single appearance the Scottish international dislocated his kneecap and is expected to be out for at least six months.

ST) Mario Balotelli – AC Milan to Liverpool

There is no question about it, Balotelli has been one of the worst signings of the season so far. He has played in almost every game for Liverpool, but has still failed to find the net in a single Premier League match. If he was the kind of player who ran around and sacrificed himself for the team this may be a little more excusable, but a selfless team player Mario Balotelli certainly is not.

ST) Rickie Lambert – Southampton to Liverpool

Is it more of a failure not to score a single Premier League goal after 11 games, or to be benched behind the player who can’t seem to score? Despite Balotelli failing epically since his move to Liverpool, Lambert can’t seem to get on the pitch ahead of him; and when he has done he hasn’t fared much better.
