Here are ten facts that many fans may want to know…

Huge Borussia Dortmund fan

The German has been a Dortmund fan since he was a child. Even while playing for Borussia Monchengladbach, he drove to the city every weekend. He endeared himself to the club more when he chose them over Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Tomas Rosicky is his idol

The much coveted forward also idolises Arsenal’s Tomas Rosicky. “My idol was always Tomas Rosicky. He used to be phenomenal. He had such a good eye for an opening and knew where his team-mates were, and he was so quick,” Reus once said. The now-Arsenal man used to play for Dortmund in the early 2000s.

Superstitions

He apparently puts his right sock, shin pad, and boots on first in a pre-match superstition. Reus also always steps on to the pitch with his left foot first.

Nicknames

The 23-time Germany international has gained nicknames such as “Rolls Reus” and Woody Woodpecker (because of his head movements).

Scared of heading

The 25-year-old has admitted that he is scared of heading the ball, something that may not endear him to English fans. He once commented: “I hate losing, and I also hate heading. I’m scared of it, I always used to head the ball in the wrong place, with the top of my head.”

He’s always been great

The Dortmund star first played for Post SV Dortmund, and his former coach said, “He always loved playing, either here or at home. He was good on the ball and more than held his own in the team.”

He’s in his second spell at Dortmund

Reus was actually released by Dortmund as a 15-year-old, with his slight physique the reason behind his dumping. He then went to third-tier side Rot-Weiss Ahlen.

Wannabe pilot

If the 25-year-old hadn’t made it as a footballer, he could have become a pilot, as aviation is his other great interest.

Family don’t like football

The forward is the only boy in his family and he has two sisters. They apparently don’t share his love of football. Reus once said: “Unfortunately they don’t have my enthusiasm for the game.”
