Liverpool travel to Bulgaria on Wednesday to face Champions League minnows Ludogorets, knowing only a win will give them a realistic chance of qualification to the competition’s knockout stages.
The Reds, like their opponents, have taken just three points from their first four group stage games, and they’ll be well aware of how lucky they were to snatch a 2-1 victory over the Eagles at Anfield earlier this year.
The big news for Liverpool is that Mario Balotelli has failed to recover from a hamstring injury and so will not feature for the second game in succession, having also missed Sunday’s league defeat at Crystal Palace.
Jon Flanagan (knee) and Suso (groin) are long-term absentees, while Jordan Henderson (illness), Jose Enrique (knee) and Mamadou Sakho (thigh) are all doubts for Wednesday’s clash. Daniel Sturridge is the other big miss, and will be out until the New Year.
For Ludogorets, defender Yordan Minev is available after serving a one-game ban against Basel, but striker Roman Bezjak misses out with a groin problem.
