The Russian has also been quick to sack managers and as a result nine different bosses have passed through the doors at Stamford Bridge.

Here the Telegraph ranks the best and worst out of 10.

9=. Andre Villas-Boas – 3/10

Reportedly the most expensive manager in history the Portuguese didn’t last long as poor results were coupled with a falling-out with senior players.

9=. Luiz Felipe Scolari – 3/10

Had won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, but club management seemed too much for the man known as ‘Big Phil’ and he lasted less than a season.

8. Avram Grant – 5/10

Grant did lead the team to the Champions League final in 2008 – which they duly lost on penalties to Manchester United – but no trophies despite the financial backing is considered a failure.

6=. Claudio Ranieri – 6/10

A well liked character affectionately known as ‘The Tinkerman’, the sacking of Ranieri was inevitable as Abramovich wanted to put his own mark on the dugout.

6=. Rafael Benitez – 6/10

Came in as interim for the West Londoners much to the annoyance of the fans, but Benitez silenced many of them by leading the club to Europa League glory.

4=. Jose Mourinho (2013 to present) – 7/10

It’s a second spell at the club for Mourinho and despite winning nothing last season the 51-year-old has guided them to their best ever start in the Premier League in 2014/15.

4=. Guus Hiddink – 7/10

Very well liked at the club Hiddink is the second caretaker boss on this list and the Dutchman guided the team to success in the FA Cup and narrowly lost out to FC Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

2=. Roberto di Matteo – 8/10

Drafted in as a caretaker after the sacking of AVB and after guiding the club to FA Cup and Champions League glory the Italian had to be given the position permanently, although didn’t last long after that.

2=. Carlo Ancelotti – 8/10

The only Blues manager other than Mourinho to win the league title and Ancelotti won the double along with the FA Cup in his first campaign, only to be unceremoniously sacked the next year.

1. Jose Mourinho (2004 to 2007) – 9/10

Top of the pile is the first spell at the club for the Portuguese coach, who won two league titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup before leaving to enjoy further success at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
