Reds face competition from the Blues and Tottenham Hotspur for Mauro Icardi

Interest in the Inter Milan youngster is growing after his impressive form in Serie A and the Europa League this season, with 11 goals in 17 appearances to date.

The Daily Express reports that Inter value Icardi at £28m and Spurs are prepared to beat other interested parties to the 21-year-old by meeting that asking price.

Atletico Madrid are also keeping tabs on the Argentina international.

Rodgers to play Steven Gerrard in advanced role against Ludogorets

It is a must-win match for the Merseysiders in the Champions League after losing three of their four encounters in the competition to date.

They will travel to Bulgaria to take on Ludogorets and the Independent reports Gerrard will revert back to a more familiar role further forward.

Lucas Leiva will be drafted in as a holding midfielder, with the captain playing in a more advanced position.

Former goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar blasts Simon Mignolet

Ever since completing the £9m switch to Anfield in the summer of 2013 the Belgium international has had his critics.

It doesn’t seem to be getting any better for Mignolet either as one of his predecessors has slammed him in the form of Grobbelaar.

“You’ve got to shore up at the back, get yourself someone in goal that can only let in 30 goals a season, or less than 30 goals a season,” the South African told BBC Sport.

Rickie Lambert says players should be blamed for poor form and not Rodgers

Things started well in the Premier League on Sunday for the Merseyside outfit as they took the lead at Crystal Palace through Lambert’s first goal for the club.

However, Palace came back and after another woeful defensive display from their opponents the South London side eventually won 3-1.

“It is totally down to the players. They are desperate to get the game under way and try to rectify our performance at the weekend,” Lambert was quoted by the London Evening Standard.
