The biggest stories for the Red Devils on Wednesday.

Manchester United on alert as Wesley Sneijder plans crunch talks with Galatasaray

The Netherlands international could be leaving Turkey after being shunned by manager Cesare Prandelli, according to the Daily Star.

Sneijder was omitted altogether from Prandelli’s squad for Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Trabzonspor and the 30-year-old wants crunch talks with the Italian.

Louis van Gaal would be interested in a reunion with his fellow countryman at Old Trafford having previously worked with the Dutchman with the national team.

Good news as Jonny Evans and Ander Herrera near return from injury

There is some more good news for van Gaal ahead of the weekend’s clash with Hull City as two key players are returning to full fitness.

According to the Daily Mail Evans and Herrera made it through the reserve match with Blackburn Rovers unscathed and could be ready for first team action soon.

The Spaniard played the full 90 minutes in the 5-0 victory, whilst the centre-back managed 64 minutes in a game that also featured Adnan Januzaj.

Red Devils will pay Carlo Ancelotti £270k-a-week to become van Gaal’s replacement

It seems the 13-time Premier League champions have already identified their next manager in the shape of Real Madrid head coach Ancelotti.

According to Spanish daily Marca the club want the Italian to come in and replace van Gaal as faith in the 63-year-old continues to wane.

Ancelotti has an impressive managerial CV with three Champions League victories and previous success in England with Chelsea.

United want La Liga defensive duo Dani Alves and Pepe

The FC Barcelona and Madrid veterans have emerged as January targets for van Gaal as the Dutchman seeks to improve his side’s defence, according to the Daily Express.

The back line has been a problem area for the club ever since the summer departure of stalwarts Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Alves has made it clear he will leave the Nou Camp next summer, whilst Pepe could be allowed to leave the capital following the emergence of youngster Raphael Varane.

Van Gaal is very similar to Sir Alex Ferguson says Ryan Giggs

Man United assistant and club legend Giggs says his current boss reminds him a lot of legendary manager Ferguson – who left the Theatre of Dreams in the summer of 2013.

Sir Alex was initially replaced by David Moyes, but van Gaal took charge at the start of this campaign after the Scot was sacked just 11 months into a six-year contract.

“There are a lot of similarities to Sir Alex. He sets standards and if you drop below them he is not happy,” Giggs told BBC Sport.
