Alexis Sanchez is already up to second on an impressive list of Chilean goalscorers in the Champions League. We look at the top names from the South American country to light up Europe’s premier competition.

3=. Iván Zamorano (Real Madrid & Inter Milan) – 5

The legendary striker is perhaps more famous now for his “1 + 8” shirt that he adopted at Inter  during the twilight years of his career.

The shirt was used so mathematically Zambrano could still claim to be a number nine striker when Ronaldo was given the actual number.

Zamorano is tied third on the list with a Champions League goals total of five.

3=. Marcelo Salas (Lazio & Juventus) – 5

Salas wil be known on English shores for the two goals he scored against the Three Lions prior to the 1998 World Cup.

Although never playing more than 100 games for every club he played for, Salas won a hefty horde of trophies during his time in Italy including three Scudettos and an UEFA cup Winners’ Cup.

Joint third on the list with five Champions League goals.

2. Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal & Barcelona) – 6

12 goals in 17 appearances for the Gunners’ big money summer signing. In fact, three Champions League goals, have come already this season at Arsenal.

Scoring again on Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund from range, you’d expect it wouldn’t be too long before Sanchez is haring as ferociously as he does on the pitch past the top placed Chilean on the list.

The 25-year-old is second currently with six goals.

1. Arturo Vidal (Juventus & Bayer Leverkusen) – 8

No goals as yet in this season’s European competition for the midfield powerhouse who has been so heavily linked with Manchester United in recent transfer windows.

Despite knee surgery in the summer and a slow, steady return to his full potential, Vidal has already managed three goals in just nine Serie A appearances and it shouldn’t be long before his total of eight Champions League goals is once again on the rise provided Juventus make it through to the last 16.
