The 23-year-old is reportedly ready to force an exit from the Nou Camp by handing in a transfer request in order to get his move to the Premier League, with Arsenal or Liverpool his likeliest destination.

Despite looking like a bright prospect after coming through Barca’s famed La Masia youth system, Montoya now looks to have fallen to fourth choice right-back at the club this season, with new manager Luis Enrique picking Dani Alves, Douglas and Adriano ahead of him so far this term.

Montoya is clearly unhappy with this situation, with his agent Juan de Dios Carrasco talking up the chances of a possible exit from the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

This could be complicated by the fact that Barcelona do not want to let players leave the club just at the moment, as they are currently under a transfer ban that means they cannot sign replacements for any of their departing first-teamers, which could leave them short of squad depth.
