Here are seven options for the Gunners and how CaughtOffside ranks them.

6. Christoph Kramer, Borussia Monchengladbach

5. Sami Khedira, Real Madrid

4. Grzegorz Krychowiak, Sevilla

Having only signed for Sevilla from Reims over the summer this Poland international has been drawing plenty of attention with his performances in La Liga, but at £20m Krychowiak would be an expensive import to England.

3. James McCarthy, Everton

Wenger has been a fan of the Republic of Ireland international since his days at Wigan Athletic and at 24-years-old McCarthy could potentially be in the North Londoners’ first team for years to come.

2. Lars Bender, Bayer Leverkusen

Constantly linked with a switch to England there are doubts over whether Bender wants to leave Leverkusen, but as a holding midfielder in the same vein as Claude Makelele the German could be the perfect solution to the problems at the Emirates Stadium.

1. Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton

Top of the pile though for us is a player who’s reputation has really risen in the past two years and although is exceeding expectations at St Mary’s currently has openly admitted in the past he would like to leave for a ‘bigger’ club.
