During this period they won an English league title as well as a European Cup.

9) Dinamo Bucharest – 47 games – 26/5/1991 to 26/9/1992

The first of two Romanian teams on the list, Dinamo went 47 games unbeaten and won the 1991/92 Divizia A title.

=7) Juventus – 49 games – 15/5/2011 to 3/11/2012

Juve looked to be approaching AC Milan’s Serie A unbeaten record, but lost 3-1 to Inter Milan on their 50th game.

=7) Arsenal – 49 games – 7/5/2003 to 24/10/2004

Known as the Invincibles, Arsenal went an entire Premier League season unbeaten; a feat that is yet to be replicated.

Their streak ended when they lost 2-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

6) Ajax – 52 games – 28/8/1994 to 14/1/1996

Current Man United boss Louis van Gaal led a winning streak that saw the Dutch club win both the Eridivisie and the Champions League.

With legends such as Marc Overmars, Edwin van der Saar, and Clarence Seedorf, this was undoubtedly one of the greatest European teams of all time.

5) FC Porto – 53 games – 22/11/1994 to 23/3/1996

Led by Sir Bobby Robson, Porto looked set to break the Portuguese record set by Benfica over 20 years earlier.

They fell just short of the record, but still managed to win two league titles.

4) Benfica – 56 games – 24/10/1976 to 1/9/1978

An unbeaten streak which saw the Portuguese giants win two domestic titles. A fantastic response to losing their star striker Eusebio a season earlier.

3) AC Milan – 58 games – 26/5/1991 to 21/3/1993

The first team to win a Serie A title while remaining unbeaten for the entire season. The run began with a goalless draw against Parma, and was ended almost two years later with a defeat to the same club.

2) Celtic – 62 games – 20/11/1915 to 21/4/1917

The longest streak in British history, Celtic were the world record holders for nearly 70 years.

Their streak came to an end on the final day of the 1916/17 season when they lost to Kilmarnock.

1) Steaua Bucharest – 104 games – 17/8/1986 to 9/9/1989

Steaua Bucharest may hold the record for longest unbeaten run in world football, but the record is tarnished somewhat by the fact that the streak was obtained under controversial circumstances.

At the time the club was linked to Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, who apparently influenced a number of refereeing decisions and brought a number of top players to the club using less than legal means.
