Six Players Who Could Thrive Like Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic If Given Second Chance At Big Club, Including Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United & Spurs Rejects

Chelsea re-signed Nemanja Matic for over £20m at the start of 2014, less than three years after allowing him to leave Stamford Bridge for around a quarter of that fee in a part-exchange deal that saw David Luiz join from Benfica.

Since rejoining Chelsea, the Serbian midfielder has thrived and quickly become one of Jose Mourinho’s most important players.

6. Carlos Vela

Was only given three Premier League starts for Arsenal, but has scored 47 goals in three La Liga seasons for Real Sociedad.

5. Giuseppe Rossi

Since leaving Manchester United in 2007, Rossi has been a big hit at Villarreal and Fiorentina.

4. Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne signed for Chelsea in January 2012 for £6.7m. They sold him two years later for a £13.3m profit, despite him having played just three league games for the Blues. He is currently lighting up the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg. He’s only 23, so Chelsea could be made to regret letting him go.

3. Stewart Downing

Downing has been one of West Ham’s best players this season. He would probably improve former club Liverpool, but only because the Reds have been so awful recently.

2. Gylfi Sigurdsson

Sigurdsson should never have been sold by Tottenham, who have been made to look pretty silly this season, with the Iceland international bagging three goals and seven assists for Swansea already.

1. Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho clearly had a personal problem with Lukaku… Why else who he sell one of Europe’s top 21-year-olds to Everton?
