Premier League clubs spent an astronomical £115,202,886 in the last two transfer windows on agents fees between October 2013 and September 2014.
Official figures released by the League and reported by the Daily Express show just how much the game’s transfer middle men are earning with the figure rising from £96.6 million in the corresponding period last year.
Here we detail the Top 10 highest fees paid by Premier League clubs.
10.) Stoke City – £3,986,850
A surprisingly low amount for the Potters considering they brought in seven new faces in the summer.
9.) Arsenal £4,293,407
Despite their big money, £35 million move for Alexis Sanchez, the Gunners spent a modest amount on agents fees in the past year. Perhaps if Arsene Wenger had signed the defensive midfielder and centre-back so sorely needed, that total would be slightly higher.
8.) Sunderland – £5,276,674
Not many any big names to shout about coming in at Sunderland in recent transfer windows. Summer signing Jack Rodwell has hardly lit up the Stadium of Light since signing, money well spent by Gus Poyet?
7.) Everton – £5,753,269
Everton showed they have the ability to sign big name players with the capture of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer. Seven players in, seventh in the list.
6.) West Ham United – £6,380,339
£6.3m a price worth paying you’d say for the Hammers with Sam Allardyce’s side riding high and dreaming of Europe.
5.) Manchester United – £7,975,556
Quite a surprise United aren’t higher on the list considering they had to deal with super-agent Jorge Mendes to get their hands on treasured forward Radamel Falcao.
4.) Tottenham Hotspur – £10,983,011
Slightly surprising Spurs are so high on the list considering the biggest name they signed this summer was Michael Vorm. You dread to think what their agents fee bill was last year!
3.) Manchester City – £12,811,946
Another club to breach the £10m pound mark, City another team who had to deal with Mendes to get the player they wanted in Eliaquim Mangala.
2.) Liverpool – £14,308,444
Perhaps not surprising Liverpool are second on the list consider they seemed to raid half Southampton squad this summer. The figure represents quite a significant rise from the Reds outlay to agents of £9,400,973 in 2013.
1.) Chelsea – £16,771,328
Chelsea only the second club to go over £10m in the past year. Not a shock considering some of the quality they have brought in over the past year. Fabregas, Costa, Matic, Luis – the list goes on!
