Here is a Premier League club by club analysis of the players every team wants, and the players ever team needs, according to the Express:

20) West Ham United

What they want: Andre Ayew, Aleksandar Dragovic, Jean Makoun.

What they need: A centre-back to replace Winston Reid who looks set for a January exit, and for their in form strikers to remain fit.

19) West Bromwich Albion

What they want: Stephane Badji, Matt Ritchie.

What they need: For Alan Irvine’s summer signings to bed in and succeed. The club can’t really afford to splash the cash again in January.

18) Tottenham

What they want: Morgan Schneiderlin, Jay Rodriguez, Saido Berahino, Ricardo van Rhijn, Mauro Icardi, Marcelo Brozovic.

What they need: An out and out goalscorer who they can actually rely upon, and players who fit Mauricio Pochettino’s ideology.

17) Swansea City

What they want: Wamberto

What they need: To keep hold of Wilfried Bony, and for Gylfi Sigurdsson to stay fit.

16) Sunderland

What they want: Fabio Borini, Stephane Badji, Jean Makoun, Bruma.

What they need: Borini. He was fantastic for them on loan last season, but for some reason would rather sit on the bench at Liverpool.

15) Stoke City

What they want: Aaron Lennon, Danny Ings, Victor Moses.

What they need: Potent wingers. Victor Moses has started to show promise, and may be kept on permanently.

14) Southampton

What they want: Kevin Kampl, Jesus Corono, Kennedy Igboananike, Andros Townsend, Harry Kane.

What they need: For Ronald Koeman to continue to unearth reasonably priced gems from around Europe.

13) QPR

What they want: Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Tomas Kalas.

What they need: A goal threat to take some of the weight off Charlie Austin.

12) Newcastle United

What they want: Memphis Depay, Max Kruse, Demba Ba.

What they need: An out and out goalscorer. Someone they can rely upon to regularly lead the line up front.

11) Manchester United

What they want: Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin Strootman, Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane, Ron Vlaar, Jan Vertonghen, Winston Reid, Miranda, Martin Odegaard, Sami Khedira, Marco Reus, Victor Valdes.

What they need: Defensive reinforcements. Louis van Gaal is working with a threadbare defence, and will surely look to spend big once again in January on a number of players.

10) Manchester City

What they want: Lionel Messi, Edinson Cavani, Frank Lampard, Ross Barkley, Marco Reus, Layvin Kurzawa.

What they need: Players who can chip in with a goal. City have become far too reliant on Sergio Aguero this season, and with his injury history you wouldn’t count on him staying fit for the whole season.

9) Liverpool

What they want: Xherdan Shaqiri, Petr Cech, Divock Origi, Jackson Martinez, Saido Berahino, Marco Reus, Nathan Redmond.

What they need: All of the above. Brendan Rodgers doesn’t seem to have invested wisely over the summer, and will need to bring a number of players into the club in January to get their season back on track. A goalkeeper and a striker seem the most important targets.

8) Leicester City

What they want: Emile Heskey, Joel Campbell, Selcuk Inan, Tyrone Mings.

What they need: Like almost everyone else, a goalscorer. Leonardo Ulloa looked to be the solution at the start of the season, but his goals have dried up and Leicester need to find another source.

7) Hull City

What they want: Aaron Lennon, Darren Fletcher

What they need: Not a whole lot, but Steve Bruce needs to get his squad playing to their potential.

6) Everton

What they want: Memphis Depay, Shaun Maloney, Martin Montoya, Joel Campbell.

What they need: Defensive reinforcements. The squad will have to be assessed in January with regard to injuries.

5) Crystal Palace

What they want: Stephane Badju, Gregor Balazic, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Nnamdi Oduamadi.

What they need: Reinforcements in the full-back department.

4) Chelsea

What they want: Marco Reus, Sami Khedira, Wesley Sneijder, Mauro Icardi.

What they need: Seemingly nothing. Chelsea look to be running away with the Premier League already, and bar any lengthy injuries Jose Mourinho shouldn’t need to invest in January.

3) Burnley

What they want: Troy Deeney, Jozy Altidore, Henry Lansbury, Ryan Christie.

What they need: For Sam Vokes to return from injury. Burnley would love to stay in the Premier League, but are being sensible and planning for life back in the Championship; very unlikely to invest heavily in January.

2) Aston Villa

What they want: Tom Cleverley, Josip Ilicic, Jonas Olsson, Danny Ings.

What they need: Money. With Paul Lambert on a shoe string budget it is unlikely that Villa will break the bank in January.

1) Arsenal

What they want: Marco Reus, Joao Moutinho, Sami Khedira, Xherdan Shaqiri, Grzegorz Krychowiak, James McCarthy, Marcelo Brozovic, Fabian Schar, Winston Reid, Ron Vlaar, William Carvalho.

What they need: A centre-back and a dominant defensive midfielder. Arsenal have needed the same thing for years now, players to do the dirty work and give them the freedom to play the beautiful game. Arsene Wenger will need to bring in at least one player in January to save their season.
