We asked fans which players they wanted to see in an Arsenal shirt in January, and these are the names they came up with:

8) Morgan Schneiderlin – Southampton

The Frenchman was hotly tipped to move over the summer, but after the Saints saw a mass exodus his transfer was blocked.

Still considered by many Arsenal fans to be the ideal midfield signing, Arsene Wenger would go into a lot of Gooners’ good books if he pulled this one off.

7) Grzegorz Krychowiak – Sevilla

Although most Arsenal fans probably know very little about the Polish midfielder, he seems to have become a popular choice to shore up a rather physically weak midfield.

Having only moved to La Liga this summer he wouldn’t be cheap, but if he could strengthen the team it would certainly prove worth it.

6) John Stones – Everton

A bit of a shock entry, but one fan believes that the future of the English defence should be Arsenal based.

With Calum Chambers and John Stones looking set for bright careers with the international team, this fan suggests that the two would make a fantastic centre-back partnership for Arsenal in the future.

5) Carlos Vela – Real Sociedad

Arguably not what Arsenal need at the moment, but the Mexican’s form since moving to La Liga has been undeniably fantastic.

He has come back into the spotlight recently following David Moyes’ appointment as Real Sociedad boss, and Gooners seem to once again to be suggesting he should return to the Emirates.

4) Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund

The German defender is the dream signing at centre-back really, as is evident by the number of Arsenal fans that have demanded his signature in January.

With Dortmund floundering at the bottom of the Bundesliga at the moment he may well be looking for an exit, but will Arsene Wenger be willing to spend the reported £32m to bring him to the Premier League?

3) Karim Benzema – Real Madrid

Having signed Danny Welbeck on deadline day and with Olivier Giroud returning early from injury it seems unlikely that Arsenal will fork out a fortune to bring Benzema to the Emirates. He still seems to be a popular choice however, with many fans believing that the Gunners still don’t possess a striker of real pedigree.

2) Lars Bender – Bayer Leverkusen

Linked with an Arsenal move regularly over the last season or two, the Leverkusen star is seen as the defensive midfielder the Gunners have been missing for so many years.

He would certainly add some grit and steel to the midfield, and his ability on the ball would see him fit in at the Emirates perfectly.

1) Sami Khedira – Real Madrid

The German World Cup winner is still refusing to sign a contract extension at the Bernabeu, which has seen him linked to a host of top European clubs.

Arsenal are in dire need of a defensive midfielder, and Khedira is seen as the world class option that will take them to the next level.

His injury worries are a concern, but Arsenal fans seem to be planning on crossing that bridge when they come to it.
