Six players in Serie A that would suit the Premier League.

Serie A is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance lately, and has gone a long way to putting some of the recent scandals behind it. Though they may have have a Champions League spot removed, the standard of the play is higher than it’s been in a long time, so with that in mind we have put together a list of six players currently lighting up the Italian top flight that Premier League sides would do well to bring on board during the January transfer window.

Kevin Strootman – Roma

Who he would suit: Manchester United

The Dutchman has missed all the action so far this season through injury, but that hasn’t stopped a steady stream of clubs across Europe from taking an interest. United have been long time admirers of the former PSV star, and though they signed Daley Blind over the summer they still need an enforcer with a wide range of passing to boss the middle of the park. With Michael Carrick not getting any younger, Strootman would be the ideal replacement.

Mattia De Sciglio – AC Milan

Who he would suit: Liverpool

De Sciglio has earned himself a reputation as one of Europe’s best up and coming full-backs over the past two years, despite some less than inspired performances. Being left-footed, the Italian international is almost solely employed on the opposite side of the defence, proving that he can be versatile as well as making the right hand flank his own. With Glen Johnson’s contract running down, the Reds will be looking for a top class replacement that they can mould into a future Premier League superstar.

Miroslav Klose – Lazio

Who he would suit: Arsenal

The Gunners are blessed with some of the finest attacking talent in the league, but one thing they lack is an experienced goal machine that operates solely in the opposition box. Klose may be getting on in years, but as Frank Lampard has proved with Man City the goals are still easy to come by. Likely available on a short term deal, the 36-year-old would be another outlet for the vast creative talent sitting behind him in the Arsenal midfield.

Radja Nainggolan – Roma

Who he would suit: Liverpool

The Belgian international is everything rolled into one that the Reds had hoped for when they signed Lazar Markovic and Emre Can this summer. A box-to-box powerhouse that possesses tireless running as well as a wide passing range and an eye for goal. In many ways he would be the ideal successor to Steven Gerrard as he is more limitless than Jordan Henderson.

Raul Albiol – Napoli

Who he would suit: Manchester United

United desperately need some more defensive cover in the wake of their ongoing injury crisis this season. Blackett and McNair have performed as well as you’d expect youth team players to perform, but they need a solid defender that is reliable and a virtual ever present. Albiol has years of experience at the top level thanks to his time with Real Madrid, Napoli and the Spanish national side. Continental in approach, he would slot right in to what Van Gaal is trying to build at Old Trafford.

Mauro Icardi – Inter Milan

Who he would suit: Liverpool

The Argentine international may be another controversial figure, but he is an unstoppable goal machine in the making. Finding the net regularly with Inter, they are aware of his value and have slapped a high price on his head in order to ward off potential suitors. Liverpool have declared an interest, but will a move for Icardi rest on whether the club can shift Mario Balotelli?
