The side appear to be playing better than they were last season at the moment, and here are five ways in which manager Louis van Gaal has managed to make this happen.

Big spending

United spent £150 million in the summer transfer window, and this has made a huge difference to them. They now have an attack that is the envy of the league. This differs from last summer, when David Moyes was only allowed to buy Marouane Fellaini.

David de Gea’s form

The Spaniard has been in unbelievable form this campaign, almost single handedly winning his team points against Stoke, Arsenal, and Everton as well as others. Maybe this is less to do with the workings of van Gaal, but it has still been vital to the Red Devils’ fortunes.

Instilled Confidence

Whereas last season United went in to the big games as underdogs and low on confidence, this time round they have gone in with a different attitude. Points won against both Chelsea and Arsenal show how this has affected the team. Their Dutch manager has done well to create this mindset.

Luck

Although there is now way that their injury list can be called lucky, their luck in matches is undeniable. The Old Trafford side have been on the receiving end of opposing team’s generosity on many occasions. For some reason side’s seem to be regularly missing big chances against van Gaal’s men, and as long as that continues they will do well.

Fixture list

Van Gaal has had a friendly run of fixtures so far. There was an easy start to bed him in, and then the harder teams have come along at a time when he should of imparted his methods on the team. The only troubling period was when they had to play against Chelsea and Manchester City in consecutive games.
