Former Tottenham Manager Launches Scathing Attack On Out Of Form Jan Vertonghen

Tim Sherwood clearly wasn’t impressed by the Belgian.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood hasn’t shied away from criticising his former players since he was sacked as Spurs boss at the end of last season in favour of Mauricio Pochettino, with defender Jan Vertonghen the latest to come under fire from Sherwood according to reports from the Mirror.

Vertonghen has been in poor form at White Hart Lane so far this season and seems to have his heart set on a move away from the North Londoners, but Sherwood’s criticism of a player who has largely been excellent for the club since his arrival from Ajax will still come as something of a surprise and perhaps does not do justice to the Belgian international:

“Vertonghen is so poor. Can’t move his feet. He looks elegant with the ball but he just can’t defend, this guy.”

Pochettino has kept faith in Vertonghen far more than Sherwood did and has not frozen him out of the first team picture at White Hart Lane despite poor form, although if the Belgian is unable to improve then the big move that he seems to be angling for is likely to become less and less likely.

Sherwood, meanwhile, remains out of work following his sacking by Daniel Levy, despite being linked with a number of high profile jobs in both the Premier League and the Championship.
