The Spanish international made the switch to the Emirates from Malaga in 2012, making an instant impact at the club by winning Arsenal’s Player of the Year award during his first season.

He failed to replicate that form in the following seasons, but has still proved himself an integral part of Arsene Wenger’s side.

The playmaker’s contract still has 18 months to run, but reports in Spain have suggested that he is already planning a summer switch back to his homeland.

An apparent frustration due to the lack of silverware at the club has convinced him it’s time to move on, with the 29-year-old thought to be considering a move to reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

He has previously spent time at Villareal and Malaga, but would certainly have more chance at a trophy with Diego Simeone’s side.
