Manchester United To Let Up To 13 Players Leave Next Summer As Van Gaal Plans Mass Squad Cull

Van Gaal ready to wring the changes and really make his mark.

Manchester United could be set for a huge summer of change at the end of the season, with the Mail reporting that the club will make around £150 million available for Louis van Gaal to spend and bring new players into Old Trafford, really making his mark on the squad one year after being appointed as the successor to former boss David Moyes.

The inevitable consequence of spending on the likes of Arjen Robben and Mats Hummels will be that players need to make way for the new blood to come in, however, with the report also suggesting that as many as 13 players need to be fearful for their Old Trafford futures as van Gaal plans a huge summer overhaul of his squad.

These are the players in question:

Nani

Has been spending the campaign on loan at Sporting Lisbon and, despite some decent form, is still likely to leave on a permanent basis.

Anders Lindegaard

Could be sold as soon as January to allow United to offer a deal to Spain star Victor Valdes, who has been training with the club.

Anderson

Is out of contract at the end of the season and completely out of favour, but United are reportedly confident that a buyer in his native Brazil can be found in January.

Radamel Falcao

Has not hit the heights hoped since he joined on loan from AS Monaco in the summer and there is every chance that United will decide pressing ahead with a £46m permanent move represents too much of a gamble.

Nick Powell

With the young midfielder pulling up few trees on loan at Leicester City, it is hard to envisage a future for him with United.

Javier Hernandez

Another player out on loan this season, with Real Madrid, it is likely that Mexican star Hernandez has played his last game for the club.

Wilfried Zaha

Not even an automatic start back on loan at former club Crystal Palace, the potential that Zaha showed prior to his Old Trafford move seems to hive dissipated.

Tom Cleverley

Is doing a steady job on loan at Aston Villa, but is another player for whom an Old Trafford future seems to be little more than a pipedream.

Robin van Persie

Is out of contract in the summer of 2015 and United need to decide whether he is worthy of another deal, although the Dutchman is perhaps the most likely to stay on out of this list.

Rafael da Silva

With Dani Alves arriving and Rafael’s contract heading towards expiry, things are not looking good for the floppy-haired Brazilian when it comes to a long term future with United.

Ashley Young

Out of contract in 2015, Young is enjoying a reasonable run in the first team of late, but is another player who United may well decide does not quite cut the mustard.

Chris Smalling

Perpetually linked with Arsenal, Smalling is another player of whom contract talks need to start soon if his future is not to hang in the balance. He certainly didn’t endear himself to van Gaal with his Manchester derby meltdown.

Phil Jones

Injury problems have meant that Jones has been afforded few opportunities to impress van Gaal, something he needs if he is to earn a new deal beyond 2015.
