Five Premier League Records Chelsea Can Still Break This Season After Newcastle End Unbeaten Run

No unbeaten run? No problem – five landmarks still in Chelsea’s sights.

With a surprise 2-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United last season ending Chelsea’s hopes of emulating the Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ side of 2004 and going a whole campaign unbeaten, here’s a look at five more landmarks within reach for the Blues this term.

While the actual Premier League trophy will be the club’s main priority, this superb team can still make history in the record books as they look on their way to boasting some highly impressive statistics.

For those interested in more than just trophies, here are five more Premier League records Chelsea can break this season, including some of their own, set by previous great Blues sides…

1) Most points in a Premier League season

A record currently set by their 2004/05 title-winning team, Chelsea can still mathematically eclipse their amazing points tally of 95, and finish on as much as 105 points for the campaign if they win all their remaining games. While that in itself is unlikely, they can still do better than 95 based on how well they’ve played so far.

2) Most goals in a Premier League season

Another of their own records, Chelsea can in theory still better their incredible 103-goal haul that saw them win the Premier League title under Carlo Ancelotti in the 2009/10 season. A few more huge wins would certainly help, but that may not really be Jose Mourinho’s style…still, the fantastic form of Diego Costa in front of goal can’t hurt.

3) Most wins in a Premier League season

Again, Chelsea have their own high standards to compete with here as the Blues have twice won a record-breaking 29 wins in their title-winning seasons of 2004/05 and 2005/06. Mourinho’s men can in theory win as many as 34 games this term, so that may not be an unrealistic aim for the rest of the campaign.

4) Most home wins in a Premier League season

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea themselves currently hold the record at 18 home wins in a Premier League season. With a 100% record at Stamford Bridge so far this term, the Blues can in theory go one better and win every single one of their home matches to set a new record.

5) Most clean sheets in a Premier League season

A tall order, but Chelsea can also overcome another of their own records as they look to better their incredible record of 25 Premier League clean sheets set in 2004/05. Although their defence has not looked as convincing as in the past under Mourinho, Chelsea can still get as high as 29 clean sheets this season, and they can break the record if they manage not to concede in all but three of their remaining 23 games.
