Man United £200m Spending Spree: An Entire XI of Transfer Targets as Louis Van Gaal Prepares to Splash the Cash

Old Trafford side set for massive level of transfer spending with a number of world-class talents on Louis van Gaal’s radar.

Man United handed Louis van Gaal £150m to invest in his Old Trafford squad over the summer but by all accounts the Dutchman is set for yet more funds to help strengthen his squad with some sources claiming that as much as £200m more may be handed to the veteran manager.

Eurosport have outlined eleven targets who are high up on van Gaal’s wish-list, here’s a closer look.

Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) £40m

The experienced winger is a player van Gaal knows well but one has to wonder just how likely it is that the flying Dutchman would be to leave the Allianz Arena given the level of success he has achieved at the German giants in recent seasons.

Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund) £32m

The German centre-back seems an all together more likely Bundesliga target and a player who could go a long way to helping alleviate Louis van Gaal’s defensive woes.

Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid) £25m

No-nonsense Uruguayan may feel he has acheived as much as he can at the Vicente Calderon, reaching the Champions League final last term and clinching a surprise La Liga crown, a move to Old Trafford could tempt the tough tackler.

Kevin Strootman (AS Roma) £30m

Now recovered from injury the Dutch midfielder seems a very likely candidate to join Man United either in January or next summer, not least as Rudi Garcia’s side have managed well without the former PSV Eindhoven man and could therefore consider cashing in on the player.

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) £19.6m

Another Westfalenstadion star who will not be happy with the plight of his club and a move is all the more likely due to the forward’s very reasonable release clause.

Mario Gotze (Bayern Munich) £50m

Another hugely unlikely target, the youngster netted the World Cup final winner in the summer and has been in superb form for Bayern Munich this term.

Dani Alves (Barcelona) £15m

The right-back area is certainly something of a problem one and Louis van Gaal can either hold out until next summer when the experienced Brazilian will be out of contract or elect to make a tempting offer in January.

Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton) £10m

A younger option to fill the right-back berth and regardless of Southampton’s fine start to the season a move to Old Trafford would certainly still turn the England international’s head.

Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao) £15m

Young Frenchman has made a name for himself at the San Mames and may look to complete his football education in the Premier League though one imagines both Real Madrid and Barcelona are tracking the centre-back.

Victor Valdes (Free Agent)

Spanish international is already training with the Premier League side and will be a very able back-up for David de Gea just so long as he can prove he is 100% fit following a long term injury.

Radamel Falcao (AS Monaco) £43m

The last of the eleven listed by Eurosport as part a long list of apparent Louis van Gaal targets and clearly one who is already at the club.

The Colombian hasn’t been a huge success thus far and may have to start netting more frequently to encourage Man United to fork out the big fee needed to make his temporary move a permanent one.
