Another weekeend of Premier League action has drawn to a close – and the nine games over Saturday and Sunday have been defined by the big boys’ inability to overcome smaller opposition. This is our worst XI of the weekend:

GK) Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea City)

His sending off at Upton Park may have been extremely controversial, but it was still the wrong decision for the Polish international to come charging out of his goal to confront Diafra Sakho.

RB) Calum Chambers (Arsenal)

Simply dreadful. Chambers was at fault for the first goal inside seconds, was torn apart by Bojan all afternoon and compounded matters with a silly red card just as Arsenal were getting back into the game.

CB) Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

The usually reliable Gary Cahill was anything but as Chelsea lost at St. James’ Park, he was caused real trouble by the Magpies’ movement and was at fault for the opening goal by Papiss Cisse.

CB) Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

Slammed the first half performance of his teammates during the post-match aftermath, but Mertesacker was equally poor himself as Stoke exposed his lack of mobility.

LB) Ben Mee (Burnley)

Mee was ruthlessly exposed as QPR poured attacks down the right hand side and, sadly, the former Manchester City man just doesn’t look like a Premier League defender.

RM) Adam Lallana (Liverpool)

Failed to provide the creativity that Liverpool required to break down a stubborn Liverpool side – Lallana is really struggling to live up to his huge price tag.

CM) Muhamed Besic (Everton)

Is yet to hit form since joining Everton from Ferencvaros in the summer and hasn’t managed the kind of displays that he did for Bosnia at the World Cup – could do little to stop Yaya Toure dominating the game.

CM) Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

Henderson’s distribution was clumsy and he lacked the energy that usually defines his game as the Liverpool man had an afternoon to forget against his former club Sunderland.

LM) Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur)

If it wasn’t for the hapless chambers, Lamela’s pathetic individual display would possibly have been the worst of the weekend – he offered nothing before being hauled off by Mauricio Pochettino.

SC) Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)

Earned his place back in the starting line-up by turning the game against Southampton in the week but failed to build on it with this lifeless display.

SC) Roberto Soldado (Tottenham Hotspur)

Spent all game scampering around in the hope of a golden chance and then blazed it high and wide when one finally came his way.
