Ashley Cole – Roma Having made just a 45-minute appearance in a friendly against Denmark, Cole became England’s most capped left-back.

John Stones – Everton The Everton starlet has begun to get a foothold in both his club and country sides, and carries a very large hope for the future.

Calum Chambers – Southampton

Chambers has been in fine form for Arsenal since his summer move, and as he is able to perform strongly in two positions he will undoubtedly become valuable to the Three Lions in the future.

Joe Hart – Manchester City

Hart recovered from some patchy form in 2013 to retain his place in the side ahead of some stiff competition. Can he keep it up into 2015, though?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Arsenal An exciting addition to the Three Lions squad, the Ox looks as though he can make things happen where others perhaps cannot.

Jordan Henderson – Liverpool The Liverpool star is finally starting to live up to that £20m price tag and look as though he can be the most natural successor to club mate Steven Gerrard.

Phil Jagielka – Everton

The Toffees veteran has stepped into the absence of John Terry admirably to become the nation’s first choice centre-back, and has even chipped in with a couple of goals.

Wayne Rooney – Manchester United

With eight goals in 13 appearances it’s fair to say that Rooney is back to his best as he marched himself within a hair of becoming the country’s all time leading goal scorer.
