Everybody likes to have a moan at transfer rumours don’t they? 10) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint Germain to Arsenal)

Arsenal simply don’t spend big in the January transfer window, and however many hints Cavani might drop about leaving PSG, we can’t see it happening until at least next summer – he is playing, he is scoring, why would the French giants sell him?

9) Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid to Manchester City)

The 28-year-old has been with Madrid since 2005. He has played 300 league games and well over 400 matches in all competitions. He is a firm fan favourite and a highly decorated, successful star that embodies everything about the club. Why would he trade all that in unless Madrid wanted him to go?

8) Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid to Manchester United)

Atletico Madrid’s captain and one of their most loyal stars – United would have to pay big to have any chance of securing his signature, and you have to imagine that money would be better spent on a younger model who would star at Old Trafford for years to come.

7) Paul Pogba (Juventus to Manchester City)

Put aside the links Pogba has to Manchester United for a minute. Juventus made it very clear in the summer that they would not be selling the Frenchman at any price, despite supposed interest from United and Chelsea. Surely City don’t stand any better chance!

6) Arturo Vidal (Juventus to Manchester United)

Please, please, please give this one up United fans – it’s just not happening. One of the most talked about deals of the summer window, but if it wasn’t going to happen then, it isn’t going to happen now – Van Gaal has made his choice, and it’s not Vidal.

5) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund to Anyone)

Is there any major club in Europe that hasn’t been linked with signing Marco Reus? His summer departure from Dortmund seems almost an inevitably, with his cut-price buyout clause kicking in at the end of the season. But the club have made it clear they won’t sell before then, so guys – stop trying.

4) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid to Liverpool)

Yes they have Ronaldo, Bale, Rodriguez… but Karim Benzema is the only man Madrid have that can lead the line as an out and out centre forward. He is an integral part of their team, and the idea that they would sell him is ludicrous to say the least, let alone to Liverpool.

3) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool to Chelsea)

Speaking of Liverpool, a £50m swoop from Chelsea for their star player does ring a bell doesn’t it… but we just can’t see Sterling being Torres 2. The 20-year-old winger seems fully committed to the Reds, who will be equally determined to hang on to him for many years.

2) Robbie Williams (Professional Singer to Borussia Dortmund)

“Borussia Dortmund offer Robbie Williams a job after singer says he is ‘bored of the pop star thing’ and wants to work in Germany” – quote. Yes, that was what the Daily Mail reported this week, so it seems the pop sensation, 40, is set for a career in football… or maybe not.

1) Cristiano Ronaldo & Gareth Bale (Real Madrid to Manchester United)

We bet you didn’t think anything could beat Robbie Williams joining Borussia Dortmund? But this gem from the Daily Express claims that Manchester United are set to sell record signing Angel di Maria in order to sign Ronaldo or Bale. It’s creative if nothing else.
