Wednesday’s debutant Ruben Loftus-Cheek is just tip of the Stamford Bridge iceberg…

Chelsea are now infamous for the amount of youngsters that they have loaned out. 26 of their players are currently away from the club, the majority of whom are youth players who can’t get in the first team at Chelsea.

This has created a situation where they might not need to make any signings for another decade. This is after years of spending big on marquee transfers since Roman Abramovich took them over. Here is the team that they could have if they took the extreme measure of not spending anything…

GK) Thibaut Courtois, age in 2024 – 32

The Belgian is already a first team regular at Stamford Bridge, and looks set to stay there for a very long time. One of the best keepers in the world currently, just think about how good he could be with the extra experience in a decade.

RB) Wallace, age in 2024 – 30

The full-back signed from Fluminense in January 2013, before immediately going back out on loan to the Brazilian club. Now farmed out temporarily to Vitesse Arnhem like so many other Chelsea youngsters, Wallace is an exciting attacking right-back.

LB) Nathan Ake, age in 2014 – 29

Currently seen fairly regularly on the Blues’ bench, Ake is a versatile player who can fit in at centre-back and central midfield as well as left-back. He looks to have a bright future ahead having already played several games under Jose Mourinho.

CB) Kurt Zouma, age in 2024 – 29

Signed in January in 2014 for £12 million before going back to original club St Etienne on loan until the end of the season, Zouma is now making sporadic appearances for the first team. He could be the eventual replacement for John Terry.

CB) Tomas Kalas, age in 2024 – 31

Given a surprise start against Liverpool in the London club’s 2-0 victory over the Reds, Kalas has impressed in what little time he has been given on the pitch. Now on loan at FC Koln, the youth prospect has been struggling to get minutes but undoubtedly is a huge talent.

CM) Ruben Loftus-Cheek, age in 2024 – 28

A powerful central midfielder, Loftus-Cheek is set to debut against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday. He has been likened to current star Nemanja Matic, and if he can get as good as the Serbian then he will be very successful indeed.

CM) Lewis Baker, age in 2024 – 29

Jose Mourinho has already said that if Baker, and two others in this team Dominic Solanke and Isaiah Brown don’t become England internationals then he is to blame. A creative midfielder who isn’t afraid to score, he is also a set piece specialist.

RM) Thorgen Hazard, age in 2024 – 31

His older brother may be more well known, but the younger Hazard is also a very talented player. Currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and challenging for the Champions League in the Bundesliga, he the 21-year-old recently scored and assisted a goal in his second start for the team.

LM) Mohamed Salah, age in 2024 – 31

Although he is rumoured to be leaving the club due to a lack of minutes, the Egyptian is still a great young talent. He has pace to burn, and if he could improve his end product then he has a great career ahead of him.

ST) Isaiah Brown, age in 2024 – 27

Another of the players who Mourinho will accept the blame for if he doesn’t succeed,  Brown had already played in the Premier League for West Brom before he signed for Chelsea. He can also play on the left wing, and looks set for a bright future

ST) Dominic Solanke, age at 2024 – 27

The striker has already played for the first team at Stamford Bridge, and has started to play regularly for England Under 18’s.
