Since Liverpool were dumped out of the Champions League by Swiss champions FC Basel at Anfield on Tuesday, there has been plenty of media inquests into Brendan Rodgers’ record as manager – particularly his work in the transfer market, with the Northern Irishman having been criticised for the poor signings brought into the club.

Is this really true, however? We’ve taken a look at all 25 senior signings of the Rodgers era to find out…

Fabio Borini (AS Roma, £10.4m, 4/10) – Rodgers’ first signing was a player that he knows well, but Borini’s best performance signing signing for Liverpool have been whilst on loan at Sunderland.

Joe Allen (Swansea City, £15m, 6/10) – To be fair to Allen, he is a useful player and a neat midfielder – but the huge fee paid has to be taken into consideration.

Oussama Assaidi (Heerenveen, £3m, 4/10) – Much like Borini, Assaidi is not a bad player – but it has been Mark Hughes who has gotten the best out of him during loan spells.

Nuri Sahin (Real Madrid, Loan, 3/10) – There was plenty of hope for Sahin, but his loan was cut short early and the Turk has recently criticised Rodgers for playing him out of position.

Samed Yesil (Bayer Leverkusen, £1m, 5/10) – There is still time for young striker Yesil, but he hasn’t come close to the first team so far.

Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea, £12m, 9/10) – Easily the best signing of the Rodgers era, it is only Sturridge’s injury record that stops him from being the perfect ten.

Philippe Coutinho (Inter Milan, £8.3m, 8/10) – He is inconsistent, but Coutinho has largely been good for Liverpool, particularly considering his price tag.

Joao Teixeira (Sporting Lisbon, £830k, 5/10) – Another youngster for whom there is still hope, but Teixeira has not troubled the first team too much just yet.

Luis Alberto (Sevilla, £6.8m, 3/10) – One of a number of unsuccessful dabbles in La Liga from Rodgers, the former Barcelona man has done next to nothing.

Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo, £7m, 1/10) – The one is for an FA Cup goal against Oldham Athletic, which is generous in itself.

Simon Mignolet (Sunderland, £9m, 6/10) – Isn’t a terrible ‘keeper by any means, but also not quite up to the level that Liverpool need.

Kolo Toure (Manchester City, Free, 6/10) – Considering he didn’t cost anything, Toure has put in enough reasonable performances to be deemed a solid signing.

Aly Cissokho (Valencia, Loan, 4/10) – On left left back Cissokho was largely a running joke whilst at Anfield.

Mamadou Sakho (Paris Saint Germain, £15m, 3/10) – Considering the fee paid for him, Sakho has been an absolute disaster – Rodgers doesn’t seem to trust him.

Tiago Ilori (Sporting Lisbon, £7m, 6/10) – There are high hopes for Ilori, who is having a good season on loan at Bordeaux, but he is another player who isn’t impacting the first team now.

Victor Moses (Chelsea, Loan, 3/10) – Did nothing of note in a Liverpool shirt.

Rickie Lambert (Southampton, £4.5m, 6/10) – As an impact player and for his experience, Lambert will probably prove to be an okay buy.

Adam Lallana (Southampton, £25m, 4/10) – Lallana isn’t a bad player but with every Liverpool game his fee looks even more crazy.

Emre Can (Bayer Leverkusen, £9.75m, 6/10) – Another player who has genuine potential and has looked okay on occasion, but again there are concerns over the huge fee.

Lazar Markovic (Benfica, £19.8m, 4/10) – Markovic is a good player and, over time, will prove to be useful for Liverpool – but he was never worth nearly £20m.

Dejan Lovren (Southampton, £20m, 2/10) – Has been genuinely awful since signing from Southampton even before you take the fee into account.

Divock Origi (Lille, £9.8m, 6/10) – Is an exciting prospect and one for the future, but again it is money that hasn’t improved the Liverpool team this season.

Javier Manquillo (Atletico Madrid, Loan, 6/10) – Has looked okay, but isn’t a man that is likely to make a signfificant difference to a top team.

Alberto Moreno (Sevilla, £12m, 6/10) – Has had some good displays and some bad ones – will probably prove to be reasonable business eventually.

Mario Balotelli (AC Milan, £16m, 2/10) – Liverpool put their chips on red but sadly the wheel landed on black. A disaster.
