GK: David de Gea (Manchester United)

One of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, David de Gea is an easy choice in goal over Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, who has been poor this season.

DR: Rafael (Manchester United)

Despite a number of players filling in at right-back for United this season, Rafael would perhaps be first choice if fit and is potentially their best option in that role.

DL: Alberto Moreno (Liverpool)

An exciting young player who is perhaps taking time to settle, Alberto Moreno still looks a better bet than United’s expensive and risky summer signing Luke Shaw.

DC: Marcos Rojo (Manchester United)

A player in fine form at the moment, Marcos Rojo has been a superb signing for Manchester United this season, and is comfortably in ahead of a number of their other players at the back.

DC: Martin Skrtel (Liverpool)

Not at his very best this season, but Martin Skrtel is a solid and reliable performer with an eye for goal, in ahead of United’s youthful options in defence.

MC: Ander Herrera (Manchester United)

A great player on the ball and generally solid defensively, Ander Herrera looks a good signing by United and shoud become more of a regular as he adapts to the English game.

MC: Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United)

A player back to his Everton form this season, Marouane Fellaini has been superb for United and deserves a place ahead of the over-the-hill Steven Gerrard.

AMR: Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)

A world class attacking midfielder, Angel Di Maria has slotted in perfectly at Old Trafford and is comfortably into this XI ahead of some disappointing Liverpool midfielders.

AML: Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

A highly exciting youngster, Raheem Sterling takes a place on the left hand side of this combined XI despite a recent dip in his performances.

AMC: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

A player in top form this season, Wayne Rooney is definitely into this starting XI on current form, though the likes of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao don’t quite cut it upfront.

FC: Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

Right upfront is Daniel Sturridge, despite the Liverpool striker missing so much of this season through injury. At his best, the England international is a quality goalscorer and one of the best players at either club.
